A short series of lessons that cover parts of the Year 3/4 and 5/6 Australian Curriculum’s Design and Technologies strand. You can tie it into HASS by looking at the history of events, people or its community landmarks. Students are asked to think about and include important aspects of their local community and point out why their design should be chosen to create a statue or monument.

What is included in this resource:

5 templates are included. They help to provide a foundation for a research activity (you will need to provide your own information/materials for this), designing three different statues and reflection of each design. Student pages are in both colour and black/white versions which may be stapled into a booklet.

Teacher notes include lesson ideas and further lesson suggestions. A task card is provided with a learning intention and success criteria specified. The poster can be used for display purposes.

3/4: Investigate the suitability of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment for a range of purposes (ACTDEK013). Evaluate design ideas, processes and solutions based on criteria for success developed with guidance and including care for the environment (ACTDEP017).

5/6: Investigate characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment and evaluate the impact of their use (ACTDEK023). Develop project plans that include consideration of resources when making designed solutions individually and collaboratively (ACTDEP028).
