This English unit of learning is centred around the extraordinary musician David Bowie. Using the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ book series as a base, students explore morphology and syntax through word and sentence structure, tier 2 vocabulary, text comprehension answering questions, comparing and contrasting, and punctuation where students look at exclamation  marks.  It makes the perfect introduction and review lesson.

  • 3 different tier 2 vocabulary words
  • inferencing and retrieving information
  • main idea and supporting detail
  • clause and run-on sentences
  • suffix 'ing'
  • exclamationmark
  • decoding words into phonemes - please note I use British English markings here

You will need a copy of this text or can find a reading on YouTube. This is a series of PowerPoint lessons with 4 supporting worksheets and a list of other ideas to support the topic. It is recommended to use with Years 3 -5.
